 Cost Cutter Match 19/5/22

This week’s cost cutter match was held on a difficult Smiggies lake. Several anglers on the lake blanked, and bites were hard to come by even in the match. Mick Farmery again came out on top with 11lb 10oz (we will have to handicap him), followed by myself with 3lb 7oz and third Rob Smith with 2lb 8oz.

Next week’s match will be on Sanctuary.

 Frisby Work Party 15/5/22

Many thanks to those who turned up at Frisby for the seasons second work party. There was plenty of work done on Colver with the island being trimmed of all of the pesky overhanging vegetation that you don't see until you get tangled up in it!! Pegs were also cleared and opened up again.

After the work had been completed for the day there were six participants for the match on Jasons lake. It was Jason Farmery who came out on top after a close battle with Den Porter on the next peg. Jason, on peg 10 edged in front at the weigh in with 59lb 9oz. Den, on 12 put up a good battle  with his 49lb 4oz coming second. Mark Akiens took third place with 33lb 5oz from peg 19.

Sad News

We have received the sad news of the passing of one of our stalwart members. Jim Tolton passed away whilst on a fishing session in Norfolk last week. Jim was a long time member of Broome and also served as a Bailiff for our club. He could be seen almost every day at Frisby Complex driving around patrolling the fishery in his big grey truck.

He will be greatly missed by the many members who he has helped and offered his advice to over the years.

Our condolences go out to his family and friends at this very sad time.

 Cost Cutter Match 12/5/22

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Colver. Mick Farmery won the day with 50lb 15oz, second Mick Nash with 35lb 8oz and third Alan Smith with 32lb 12oz (just 2oz in front of Rob Smith)

Next week’s match will be on Smiggies.

 Kilworth Work Party 8/5/22

Many thanks to those who turned up at Kilworth for the seasons first work party. Those who turned out worked really hard and a great deal was done on Buffalo, Admiral and Currans. Pegs were cleared, overhanging branches removed and stringy weed was cut back.

With an 8am start the work for the day was completed by 11am and everyone had a well deserved cuppa, along with sausage rolls and biscuits a'plenty. All who wanted to, then, spent a few hours on the bank fishing!

There was the usual match for those who fancied a bit of competition and Lizzies was the lake for the day. Keith Macfarlane won the day with 37lb 11oz from peg 21. Keith lost twice as many fish as he actually landed!! some foul hooked and some too big for Keith's girly tackle to handle...lol. Jason Farmery on peg 15 finished second with 31lb 5oz. George Pratt third netting 16lb 12oz from peg 12.

Cost Cutter Match 5/5/22

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Jasons lake. For a change the weather was kind to us. Mick Farmery blitzed the match with 87lb 12oz. Rob Smith was second with 26lb 8oz and Mick Nash third with 14lb 10oz.

Next week’s match is on Colver.

 Sunday Knock-up 29/4/22

There was a Knock-up on Colver last Sunday and once again the lake fished really well. The man to beat at the moment Jason Farmery was once again top rod. Drawn on peg 10 Jason weighed in with 97lb 13oz. Very close to Jason, on Peg 43, Shaun Carey continued his good form netting 96lb 11oz to take second place. Den Porter returned from his sabbatical to finish in third place with 80lb 11oz from peg 13.

Gavin Norton, on peg 16, took section 1 with 72lb 4oz and Mick Farmery took section 2 with 37lb from peg 28.

 Cost Cutter Match 28/4/22

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Jurassic lake. As is now usual on a Thursday the fish decided to have a day off so getting bites was a real struggle. Chris Shore won the day with 4lb 9oz of skimmers, Alan Smith was second with 3lb 1oz and Mick Nash third with 1lb 7oz.

Next week’s match will be on Jasons.

 AGM 2022

Sunday saw the first AGM since 2019 due to Covid restrictions. There was a fair turnout of around forty members but that still only reflects a fraction of our membership.

There were subjects brought up for discussion by various members, though it was pointed out that most of the questions had been dealt with at previous meetings. The subject of increased security was raised and the committee stated that they will look in to the possible use of CCTV camera's to cover risk area's. It was also pointed out that the major security risk arises when some of our own members fail to close and lock the gates when they vacate or enter.

The membership voted to adopt the committee proposal the Club subscriptions are raised by £2.00 per year for the next two years due to the fact that the subscriptions were actually lowered by £2.00 for last year instead of being raised by £2.00!! due to "clerical error"

Trophies were presented to the winners of the various competitions throughout the last couple of seasons but, sadly, there were quite a few trophy winners who did not turn up to collect them.

Club Chairman, Alan Smith, thanked all of the members who had turned up to help throughout the year whenever a helping hand was needed. In particular the removal of the dangerous trees around Jurassic.

Chairmans Award

Alan Presented John Caunt with the Chairman's Award for outstanding contribution to the Club during the past year.

There was the traditional Match after the AGM with eight members taking part.

The match was on Colver Lake and it fished very well. Paul Edwards winning with a great weight of 83lb 11oz from peg 38. Jason Farmery found some big fish in the margins to take the runner up prize with 74lb from peg 36. In a close battle for third place between all three on the low numbers bank it was Shaun Carey, on peg 7, who took the prize with 52lb 7oz.
