Fishing Tackle for sale

Our Head Bailiff, Gino Flaviani, has been given various items of Fishing Tackle by a former long standing Member who is, sadly, unable to fish any more. I have been told that the tackle is in very good/almost new condition comprising of rods, reels etc etc. The former member, who Gino is selling the tackle for, has expressed that all proceeds from the sale go to Broome A.S. in recognition for all of the happy years he spent as a Member.

If you want further information and may be interested in purchasing anything please contact Gino. Gino's contact number is in your Membership Book.

 Full Membership

The Society is now full for this season (2022-2023) and we cannot accept any new members for this year. However, we can still accept renewals of memberships from last year. So, should you still want to renew don't delay if you want to avoid disappointment.

Gate Number Changed

The combination numbers on the gates to our venue's have now been changed. So please remember to use the new number, which is in your new Broome A.S. Membership Book, as the old number will no longer work.

Frisby Work Party 12/6/22

The last work party took place today. Snags removed from BJs, leaning boughs removed from Jason's. Slabs re-laid in swims on BJs and Colver. Small tree removed from Sanctuary. Also, for the new members, Smiggies lake has had its first application of the Lake dye. This turns the water blue, preventing sunlight reaching the weed. This eliminates weed growth. The application of the dye has no effect on the wildlife or the fishing.

Again thanks to all who have turned out to help in the five Work Parties that have been completed. Without your help we just could not have got as much done as we have.

There were just five members who elected to fish the work party match. The five fished on the high numbers on the back bank of Colver.

Steve Lee paid a visit to the Broome match scene for the first time in a while and it proved profitable as he took first place from peg 34 with a great weight of 92lb 1oz. Not too far behind on peg 43 was Jason Farmery. Jason putting 84lb 7oz on the scales for second place. On peg 46, Malc Spring, weighed in with 58lb 15oz for third place.

Away Day 5/6/22

With the Work Party cancelled for this day Match Secretary, Keith Macfarlane organised an impromptu Away Day Match on Trotters Lake at Holly Farm.

There were seven starters, with a good few not turning up due to the weather forecast of heavy rain. Thankfully the rain never really materialised as the rain, largely, missed the venue.

Top weight on the day was a very good 121lb 11oz from a chap named Bob! sorry but his surname is a mystery!! Bob went to the peg 10 magins after about an hour of the match, and never looked back!

With another outstanding weight of 115lb 6oz Paul Edwards took second place from peg 7. Gavin Norton completed the frame with yet another ton...105lb 5oz from peg 28.

 Jim Tolton

We have been informed by Julie Tolton, Jims daughter, that Jim's funeral will be at Loughborough Crematorium at 1:15 on the 21st for anyone that wishes to attend.

Cost Cutter Match 2/6/22

Due to Frisby Water Park Lake being extremely busy this week’s cost cutter match was switched to Smiggies lake. Mick Nash came out on top with 14lb 2oz. Mick Farmery second with 11lb 12oz and Alan Smith third with 10lb exactly.

Our cost cutter matches are now clashing with age concern matches so from next week onwards we will be running those matches on a Tuesday instead of Thursday. Next week’s match will hopefully be on Frisby Water Park Lake.

Frisby Work Party 29/5/22

Once again many thanks to those who turned put to help with the latest Work Party at Frisby. Work was done on all of the Lakes and all of this is making the fishery a much better place for all members.

Sadly there were some members already fishing when the work party was due to start and as has been stated on these pages and in the Annual News Letter they were asked to pack up there gear and leave until 1pm. We know that this can be frustrating for those concerned but there really is no excuse as there is plenty of notice given to members.

Some of the helpers having a well earned cuppa after the mornings work was done.

There were only four who fished the match after the Work Party and the four pegs at the end of the lake were used. Mick Farmery, enjoying a good run of form at the moment came out on top with 44lb from peg 46. Mark Akiens, on peg 43 had a good last couple of hours to finish in second place with 38lb.

 Cost Cutter Match 26/5/22

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Sanctuary lake. Mick Farmery again came out on top with 9lb 14oz. Rob Smith was second with 6lb 8oz and Alan Smith third with 4lb 12oz.

Next week’s match will be on Frisby Water Park Lake.

Sad News

Sadly we have lost another long term member recently. Peter Leverton informed us and asked if |I would pass on this message:

I find it hard to believe my old friend and fishing mate Tony Leader has passed away.

We had so many great sessions fishing on the lakes at Frisby, also the Fens and the Lochs in Scotland.

He taught me so much about pike fishing when I was a complete novice.

He will be missed and leaves behind so many happy memories.

Tight Lines Tony

Love to your family and friends.

Pete Leverton

Kilworth Work Party 22/5/22

There was a low turnout of around a dozen or so helpers at this weeks work party. Those that did turn up still managed to complete a lot of what needed doing on the day, so a great big thank you for your efforts.

Most of the work was concentrated around Lizzies Lake.

 220522wp01

With a party over on the Island clearing some of the overgrown trees and bushes. A lot of sawing and clipping was carried out!

Also Peg numbers were painted onto bricks that were sunk into the grass around the lake.

Due to the lack of numbers there was no match after the work party with most just opting to fish for a few hours in the sunshine.
