Rothley Work Party (3/6/12)

The foul weather crew took over for the Rothley Work Party . It was the most horrendous day with the rain non stop. A real big thank you goes out to all of those who showed up despite the conditions, and there was once again a good turnout. The bad weather must have focused the minds because a great deal was done in a short space of time.

What the hell am I doing here????

The entrance and the track up to the car parking area was all cleared, overhanging branches were also removed. All of the swims on the River got a bit of a haircut....the strimmers were going at ten to the dozen . The swims on Lake 1 were all cleared, but please take care if you go on this lake as some of the Pallets are starting to get a little worse for wear.

The final Work Party will be at Frisby Complex again next week. There are quite a few jobs that need finishing off, so once again please remember that Frisby will be closed to all anglers until 1.00pm. All other Broome AS still waters will be open as normal.

There will be a sweepstake next week, for all the attendee's who are interested, this will be held on Smiggies Lake after the Work Party.

This weeks "Work Party Sweep" was held on Colver Lake with fourteen fishing, the pegs from peg 8 around the corner to peg 31 were used. It proved to be a very close contest with only 5lb separating the top four.

A fish hooked just as the "all out" was shouted proved to be decisive as the 6lb Ghostie gave Steve Beckhurst the boost to push past Steve Kinch by just 8oz. The odd Carp coming to the Pellet from the far bank made for a slow but steady start, but a switch to an inside line about halfway through the match proved decisive. The fish, seemingly, feeding with a little more confidence closer to the near bank was just enough to land top spot with a level 50lb.

Steve Kinch, on peg 23, as said earlier was just 8oz behind in the runner-up spot. Steve caught most of his fish by fishing the Long Pole to the far bank and caught steadily throughout. Steve just managed to hold off Cookie on peg 21. Paul fished the first half of the match by feeding heavily with maggot....But with just a couple of Carp in the net Cookie decided to change tactics and try the pellet....and promptly caught, just about, a fish a cast for the rest of the day!! , and was left wondering "what might have been!"

Vinnie Logie took Section 1 with 45lb from peg 29 and Keith Macfarlane was the only money winner from the inside pegs. Keith's 22lb 9oz earning him the Section 2 prize from peg 18.
