Cookie Takes The Biscuit
Up till this match, Smiggies has been fishing really well for both the pleasure
anglers and matchmen alike. But for round three of the Sunday League the lake decided to turn its moody head on and
not play ball!! The vast majority of the fish were caught in the first hour or so, and with the wind blowing
toward the Colver end of the lake, thats where most of the fish were caught!
Paul Cooke pulled out peg 26, always a peg where there is a good chance of frameing, and
Cookie led from start to finish. Again, Cookie was catching a fish-a-chuck for the first hour, and must have
had three quarters of his weight in that time. But like everyone else the sport died off after the initial feeding
frenzy. Cookie was one of the few that managed to add an odd fish throughout the day to finish well ahead of the
field with 21lb 12oz.
Next peg (peg 28) Steve Harrison, cruised into second place, Steve had a good few Silver fish in
his peg throughout, and although they were reluctant to feed with any great conviction after the opening salvo,
Steve managed to keep picking off odd fish, just below the surface, to take 9lb 4oz to the
scales.
Dave Kimber was one of the few who managed to tempt a Bream to have a nibble and along with some
"first hour" silvers it was enough to give Dave 6lb 10oz and third place overall.
Jason Farmery took Section 1 with 5lb 15oz from peg 2. Section 2 went to Mark Aikins with 3lb
14oz from peg 18, and Phil Dayman took home the Section 3 money with 6lb 7oz from peg 25.
