Barbel Bonanza for Mick
Well it seems that you just can't keep those Farmery boys out of the spotlight at the moment... ... After one of the very few matches this season that Jason hasn't won; up popped, dad, Mick, to steal the show on the Broome Away Match number two.
The day started rather overcast with the hint of rain in the air and ended pretty much the same, with the middle bit being quite sunny and warm with a breeze blowing nearly all day...All in all, not a bad day to be out on the bank!!
Mick netted a barbel with his very first "put-in" and so it carried on for most of the match. Nearly every one of Micks 54lb 14oz was a Barbel with an average size of between 8oz to 1lb, with a few bigger specimens thrown in. All fish coming to pole fished maggot at about 18 inch from the near bank!
Yours truly nipped in for second place, drawing peg 10, one of the few pegs where legering was allowed I set up a Method feeder and stuck with it pretty much all day. Six good Carp, including a lovely looking Koi of 6lb+, and 18lb of Barbel and Chub made up my 43lb. Virtually all fish caught next to the island on hair rigged sweetcorn.
Third place went to Den Porter on peg 1 with 37lb 12oz. Den also caught most of his bigger fish on the Method Feeder, but a change to Pole tactics half way through the match could have cost him a higher place, as the feeder fish had all but disappeared when Den went back over to the island.
With a good turn out of sixteen anglers it was decided to have four section prizes....Section 1 going to ageing superstar Stu Killen with 25lb 8oz from peg 2. The aged Cormorant, Chris Shore (61) , claimed the Section 2 money with 23lb 10oz from peg 8. The man who aged 10 years when he found out he'd drawn a peg where feeder fishing wasn't to be allowed still managed to weigh in with 28lb 6oz for section 3, and the ageless Jason Farmery took the last section with 34lb 14oz from peg 20.... .
