Jason collects the Ron Reed Trophy
It was a cool start to this seasons, summer, Sunday League with cold northerly winds lowering the early morning temperatures. Thankfully the coolness was short lived as when the sun decided to make an appearance at around 1.00pm the day was transformed.
The rise in temperature certainly sparked a few more fish into having a bit of a nibble. The cool morning saw the anglers struggling for bites, with just the odd Carp coming to the net. Jason Farmery, on fancied peg 18, was struggling more than most for the first half of the match. Jason had barely 10lb before the sun started to warm things up, and the last three hours saw him netting a succession of carp to end in first place with 73lb 13oz. Jason wins the Ron Reed Memorial trophy which is always fished for on the first Sunday League match of the new season.
Paul Cooke, on peg 32, was one of the few to catch steadily all day. Paul took 63lb 6oz to the scales and claimed second place for his efforts. On peg 16, next to Jason, was Steve Harrison. Steve also caught steadily but slowly through the morning session, and when the day warmed up so did Steve's catch rate. He was 10lb behind Cookie but his 53lb 2oz was easily enough for third spot.
The "Sanctuary end" of the Lake still did not fish as well as the "Road end" and Malc Springs 31lb was far and away the stand-out weight at that end, Malc's efforts earned him the Section 1 prize. The Pole section repairers best friend Den Porter, once again heard the sickening CRACK as he was attempting to land a 5lb Carp ...It was eventually landed by Mark Aitkin about two pegs away!! It didn't stop Den from taking 46lb 8oz to the scales, and with it the Section 2 money... The prize money will help to cover the cost of the Pole section repair .
No such trials and tribulations for Chris Crane on peg 36 though....Chris netted 42lb 7oz to take Section 3.
