Thanks, again, go to Pete Felstead for sending in his report of Round 4 of the Pike League.

Start of the New Year and forecast was for a calmer, dry, day!

We had a good turn out with eight anglers fishing. Alex Sikorski and John Caunt fishing for the first time this season. That said, the top weight of three matches was only 10lb so the shield was not out of reach for them!

The conditions were better water wise, but coloured water was pushing in from the fields and even more so from the top end of Jurassic from the brook.

Mick Farmery was in to the first Pike at 2lb within a hour the whole of the lake was like chocolate. Alex managed a Pike of 4lb 9oz but it was clear the water change put the kibosh on the pike feeding.

I looked for a better water clarity for my lure fishing and the move paid off with fish of 2lb 4oz and another at 7lb 15oz. Enough to take top spot on the day, my first win for a while so I was pleased about that.  Alex took second place so that was a good return to the pike matches for him.

I stopped on to target Perch on a few new lures and I was chuffed with the 2lber I had from Smiggys. As the light faded I spotted a Barn Owl hunting, as it flew a foot above my head not a sound as it passed…. Fantastic sight.
