Jason takes Chairmans League Final
Many Anglers fishing Colver over the last two weeks or so have struggled to even get a bite. So
when the sixteen matchmen turned up to fish the final match of the Chairmans League and found the lake iced
over..... most were thinking of what better ways they could have spent their Sunday!! . The results, though, exceeded everyones expectations .
Most of the Carp seem to have moved back to their usual winter quarters as the results show, four
of the top five came from the southern end of the lake. Even taking this into consideration, the rest of the field
produced some pretty decent weights for the time of year, weather conditions and recent Colver form
.
Most thought before the draw that pegs 21 and 18 would be the favourites, but nobody dreamt that
the weights would be anywhere near what they were! Jason Farmery pulled out peg 21 and stated that his target
weight for the day was 2lb!!! Well done Jason, you beat that by a mere 87lb 6oz.....! . After a quite first half hour or so it was action all the way for Jay
putting an incredible 89lb 6oz on the scales to take the Chairmans League final for the second year in
succession.
Steve Kinch started catching from the very first put in! After fishing Colver on both Friday
and Saturday with just two fish from both sessions no one was more suprised than he was! Steve was winning the
match for quite a while but a slow down in bites enabled Jason to over haul his 58lb 6oz, Steve settling for
the runner up spot.
Den Porter has also been putting in a fair amount of practice for this match, with pretty much
the same results as Steve. He, also, was amazed by the sudden urge of the carp to get their heads down for a good
old nosh up! Den finishing in third place with 47lb 5oz.
Fourth placed Chris Lee, building on his win last week at Peatling, was keeping pretty good pace
with Jason, on peg 25. But Chris's bites all but dried up in the last couple of hours, the fish probably moving
further down to the end of the lake. Chris's 42lb was enough to secure fourth place.
Club Chairman, Alan Smith, in an effort to give all the other competitors an even chance, decided
to, discreetly, let the No4 Section of his Pole slip into the murky depths about two seconds before the "All
in" sounded. This resounding act of sportsmanship was rewarded by Alan getting the last frame place with five good
Carp for 16lb 8oz .
Section 1 went to Chris Crane with 11lb 13oz from peg 46 an area he
is becoming to know rather well . Just to prove that not everyone enjoyed a tremendous days sport, Keith
Macfarlane somehow managed to win his section with one microscopic Perch that tipped the scales at 1oz!!! last
in the match and still £40.00 richer!!! . Kev Hirons on peg 23 took Section 3 with 6lb 3oz, and Steve Beckhurst took the
last £40.00 section prize with 9lb 14oz of Roach and Skimmers from peg 30.
