Malc Springs Back!!
Malc Spring took top honours in the first away day of this season. CJ's Willow Lake, Shearsby, was the venue for round one of the, popular, Away League. On a day when the weather was a bit more conducive for fishing... the fish certainly responded . The only problem was a strong wind, but as most caught the majority of their fish close to the near-side edge it wasn't too much of a problem.
It was a close battle for all top three places and it was very difficult to predict the winner. There were a fair few Carp caught in the 10-12lb range, so one more fish could have altered the placings significantly.
At the end of the day, though, it was Malc who took an excellent weight of 97lb to the scales. Malc, on peg 12, took all of his fish on the Pole and, as stated earlier, mostly down the edge. Malc has finally stopped Jason Farmery's winning run ....Jason had won all four "Point scoring" competitions of the season so far!!!
Den Porter was the only angler to catch significantly on a method other than the Pole, Den drew peg 24, one of the wider pegs, and fished Method Feeder up against the Island. He also opted to fish close in on the Pole... Alternating between the two methods helped Den to put 88lb 6oz on the scales and claim second place.
Just an agonising 6oz behind Den, Mick Farmery had to settle for third spot. Mick, the "down the edge" expert drew peg 2 and trusted his favorite method, once again it came up trumps for Mick who continued his excellent start to the season.
Section winners on the day were Paul Cooke on peg 10 with 62lb, Jason Farmery on peg 18 with 59lb 12oz, and just to prove that it's not all Carp that are required; Vinnie Logi had around 50lb of Carp and 20 odd lb of Skimmers in his section winning weight of 72lb 6oz.
